I love my Mother. She's so funny. My mom and I both work for the same youth organization... program... whachamacallit. My mom works in the office, and I work directly with the students themselves. My mom is a production coordinator. We don't get to work together often. But we often come home and share horror stories after a long days work. Part of the issue of working with youth, is that one must work with said youth's parents. I don't mean to offend you if you should happen to BE a parent. But.... here's the deal. Ya'll are crazy. Parent's ask the CRAZIEST and sometimes ODDEST questions. Actual conversation my mother had with a parent today. Let me set it up. There's a student sitting in the office doing homework while he's waiting for his ride (or something, I'm not quite sure.) Apparently, said Student is singing to himself while he does homework. My mom is doing office work in the back, and a parent walks up to my mother (just some random parent) and the following exchange regarding the waiting student happens: Concerned Parent: "Excuse me, but is [Student's Name] deaf?" My Mom: "...Why would you ask me that?" You really have to imagine the complete "wtf" face that my mother making. Because, my mom's "wtf." face is so great. My mom wasn't being condescending or anything. It's just one of those questions that, A) WHY would you ask that of someone? and B) WHY would my mother know that?? Before I go, an exchange that happened JUST NOW. My sister is teasing our dog Kinsey with the Neti Pot (Look, I don't know why. Just... This is my house.) Sister: "I'S GONNA NETI POT YOU." My Mom: "DON'T DISS THE NETI POT." Don't ask. I don't know. Tags: conversations with my mother, conversations with my sister, life, wtf Current Mood: exanimate

Ah, today is turning out to be such a lovely day. Originally I planned to wake up at 10 and be productive. I woke up at 2:30 and felt like I had a hangover. There goes that plan. Next I was going to do laundry. Someone else has beat me to it and their laundry now occupies the washer, woe. So, I finally settled down with some left over pizza (Cheese, not even pepperoni.) and took to the interwebz in an attempt to mollify my ire. Then I slowly began to realize, I'm completely alone in the house. IF I CHOKE ON MY PEPPERONI-LESS PIZZA NO ONE WILL HEAR ME DIE FROM CHOKE. In other news my body has gone wacky on me, but not in the way you might expect. Let me begin by saying this... I have never. NEVER. had a good metabolism. My whole life, (all 20 years of it) have been plagued with the fact that I would eat something and it would go straight to my gut. I've always, ALWAYS, just gained weight and had an impossible time losing weight. The past few months I decided to change this, I started working out, running and stuff, and eating better. Now, I've done this in the past to absolutely NO effect. In fact, the last time I started eating right and working out in earnest I GAINED a bunch of weight. Well, not this time. I lost 30 pounds in one month. Yeah, we're talking like, a pound a day here. I don't even know how that works. I was very pleased with myself, and I kept everything up. Lately though, I've been super busy. I still eat right, but I haven't been working out. I thought, "oh crap. I'm going to start gaining weight back." ...NOPE. I'M STILL LOSING WEIGHT. I'M NOT EVEN FREAKING DOING ANYTHING. I mean, I'm not complaining, it's just weird. Why now, of all times, did my body suddenly decide to develop a healthy metabolism? I don't know. But I'm down to 32 jeans and medium sized shirts, so... I'll take it. New Once Upon This Dresser should be up by tonight, right now I am going to watch Watchmen (who watches the Watchmen? I DO, SUCKA.) and then I'm going to.. I don't know die slowly or something. More on this later. PEACE. Tags: life, watchmen Current Mood: accomplished

So what's new? Well, I got a new hat. and it makes me happy. It's my floppy beanie hat of goodness. I also found out that I can slide into a size 32 jean which, trust me, is freaking amazing. I've worked really hard on losing weight and I'm really really happy with the result. Other than this, it's been incredibly dry down here in old SoCal. At least it feels dry to me. But my skin goes from healthy and moisturized to desert in 2 seconds flat. I don't know who to blame for this. I'll do research or something. I don't know. I'm working on a new Once Upon a Dresser (WE FOUND BELLA. WE FOUND BELLA.) and that should be fun - a nice distraction, if you will. I'm working on all my art stuff since I've decided I'm going to become an Art major -- let's recap, shall we? I started as a Vocal Performance Major, I moved to a B.A. in Music with an emphasis on Voice, then went to Communications (didn't actually make the official major change, but started taking the classes), then I left my old University, and became an undeclared JC student. Now, I'm an art student. What is this stupidity? I don't even know what I'm thinking at this point. But I'm very happy with the choice. People suck. Just, in general. They're difficult and confusing and they hurt. They just hurt. ONWARD AND UPWARD, I SAY. Tags: life Current Location: my bed. Current Mood: restless Current Music: HEM:Twelfth Night

So, there's a new clip up from New Moon, basically an expanded "Bella confronts the Wolf Pack." It's pretty epic, actually, and restores my hope that this series can actually come out decently (overall, I mean). What I Liked: - Kristen Stewart -- She totally sold it to me in this clip. I loved everything she did. Her acting has seriously improved - and the fact that I feel comfortable making that call from one scene makes me very excited for the rest of the movie. I also must really just put it out there how much I adore Movie!Bella. Book!Bella would have whimpered her way through this in a completely passive manner. Movie!Bella? She confronts those suckers, and when they laugh at her? SHE SLAP/PUNCHES THE SUCKER IN THE FACE. Epic win.
- Chaske Spencer -- Mmk. Chaske Spencer isn't quite the chiseled beast I pictured when I read the books (think Kocoum from Disney's Pocahontas: super tall, super broad shouldered, ripped like nobodies business, stony faced...). But I understand now why Twi!Fans have come to refer to him as 'The Voice." He definitely sounds like how I imagined Sam would sound and he gets that air of authority very nicely. I have no issues with Chaske physically, he's not just quite as ripped as I pictured the Leader of the Pack would be... But then again, when you have Taylor Lautner and Alex Meraz to compare them to, none of the guys are going to looked ripped.
- Bronson Pelletier -- His voice makes me chuckle every time. He has such a high voice! I love his little, "Too late now..." after the punch-slap.
- THE WOLVES. MY GOD THE WOLVES. They look so. freaking. amazing.
- The physical diversity amongst the wolf boys. Now, Taylor and Alex are pretty much the level of crazy ripped I pictured when I read the books, that being said, I do appreciate that Bronson and Chaske are not as ridiculously ripped as Taylor and Alex... Taylor is just crazy ripped, Alex is buff, Chaske is more stocky, Bronson is on the leaner side of a stocky average, and then Kiowa Gordon is skinny buff. It makes for a nice diversity instead of them all being insanely ripped (and who really has the time to find 5 or 6 Native American guys who are all on Taylor and Alex's level of crazy-buff??).
- Alex Meraz -- Boy got some serious rage skillz thar. Seriously, he looks so pissed and it's great. I forget that Paul is supposed to be the loose-cannon, super temperamental one. His "Imma kill you" face and lead up into his fursplosion are very nicely done.
What I Did Not Like: - Alex Meraz -- (wait, what?) Don't get me wrong, I think he did some of it very very well, and I think he seems like a genuinely nice guy... but they way he delivered "What did we do? What did he do? What did he tell you?" just kind of fell apart for me. He delivered it too quickly, and far too frantically in my opinion. It's hard to understand and the first time I watched the clip I wasn't sure what he said, I just know I didn't like the way he delivered it. I know there's a video of him floating around where he talks about being a little too eager that day of filming, or something to that effect... and it kind of shows. I just don't like the line delivery. I like everything else he did in the clip. Oh wait, scratch that -- I didn't like his weird little head twitch while he said the line. But other than that I liked everything else he did. (Alex Meraz, or Mrs. Meraz if by some wild crazy chance you read this, it's not personal - I swear. Just my opinion.)
- The physical diversity in the Wolf Pack -- (wait, WHAT?) Again, I contradict myself. Similarly to my issue with Mr. Meraz, I do like that they aren't all perfectly chiseled Native American Gods of Manly Mansomeness, but at the same time it does bother me that all the guys in the wolf pack are supposed to be at the physical level of buffness as Taylor Lautner and Alex Meraz but are not. I could be wrong, but I believe they are described in the book as all being incredibly muscular in exactly the same way -- so much so that they all look like twins, or brothers, or something like that. But this is the purist in me quibbling over minor details. Also, not every guy in the world has a body like Taylor Lautner or Alex Meraz, so I appreciate that we have Chaske Spencer and Bronson Pelletier who aren't crazy ripped, and a little more on the average side of "in shape" but that they're still tough and manly characters -- Even though they aren't as ripped as Taylor and Alex they're still viewed on the same level of masculine virility. Most movies these days point to the bodies like Taylor, Alex, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Cam Gigandet and say "THAT's a man. THAT's masculine. THAT's what REAL men look like." So, I appreciate that Bronson and Chaske are still considered strong, REAL men and they're not ridiculously buff.
- Lastly, the Punch-Slap. Ok, I love that Bella is getting up all their business and sticking up for herself. But, seriously, what the hell?? WHERE IS THE CANON? WHERE? BELLA BREAKS HER HAND WHEN SHE PUNCHES JACOB IN ECIPSE. THAT'S KIND OF IMPORTANT RIGHT? The problem with this is that I can't tell if it's a slap or a punch. If it were simply a slap that would be ok, but if she punches Paul then not so much. Now... Bella breaking her hand on Jacob's jaw is a by-product of his forceful kiss in Eclipse... Judging by the trailers, Jacob and Bella might kiss in New Moon, possibly rendering the kiss-by-force non-existent (not necessary?). I don't know. It's supposed to break her hand, that's all I'm saying. It's times like these I wish I had the power to call up Kristen Stewart or Alex Meraz and say, "Hey. In that scene was it a slap or a punch? It was? Ok, thanks."
And, once again, I gotta lol over Bronson's voice, It's just so great. I'm totally looking forward to the scenes in Breaking Dawn where Jared becomes a little more prominent (I swear he just kind of pops out of nowhere). Also, does Kiowa Gordon DO anything once he becomes one of the Wolves? Tags: alex meraz, chaske spencer, kristen stewart, new moon, taylor lautner, the wolf pack, twilight Current Mood: bouncy

So, I happen to be a bit of a writer myself. Lately I've felt a renewed push to work on (and finish) my 2 novels that I have sitting in my computer. The first of these novels, and the oldest, is Legends of Lyria (at least I think this is the oldest...). Legends of Lyria, or 'LoL' if you will. Is a fantasy novel based in an alternate world, blah blah blah. I'm actually fairly proud of what i have so far in terms of story. Legends is pretty darn original, imho. I was able to come up with some fun ideas, some interesting story elements, and some fun characters. Legends, however, was not my 'baby'. My 'baby', is The Red Brick Road of Oz (Which has enjoyed a recent incarnation as a webcomic hosted at Smackjeeves.com). Red Brick Road of Oz isn't quite as original as Legends -- think Gregory Maguire's Wicked; a conglomeration of various Oz legends, re-imagined and re-explained a new way -- but it has a charm all it's own. The Wizard of Oz is one of my absolute favorite movies. It's my go-to feel good movie. I just adore it. I love all things Oz. Now, one of the biggest problems I have with both novels is the main character. The main character of Legends (whose name is being re-thought) and Terry of RBROZ, both serve as a sort of Reader's proxy but, unfortunately, suffer from Bella Swan syndrome -- more commonly known as Mary Sue Syndrome, or whatever the male equivalent is. Now, in my defense, I didn't TRY to write my main characters like Bella Swan. I hadn't even READ Twilight when I originally wrote what I have so far of both novels. The Main character of Legends strikes me as more of a Mary Sue then Terry of RBROZ, I've been very very careful to not let Terry be a Mary Sue. But it's still problematic. ANYWAY. I have some work to do. Ultimately, I'd love to be able to sell the books, even if just as ebooks. Oh, by the way. I'm adding "Haircutting" to my repertoire. Sings, Acts, Writes, Plays Piano, Draws... Cuts Hair. Damn straight. Tags: legends of lyria, life, red brick road of oz, writing Current Mood: accomplished
